  23rd Annual Conference of IAVMI

Recommendations of XXIII Annual Conference of Indian Association of Veterinary Microbiologists, Immunologists & Specialists in Infectious Diseases (IAVMI) held on 25-26th November, 2008 at Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar – 243 122 (U.P.)

Following recommendations were made out of the proceedings of XXIII Annual Conference of IAVMI and National Symposium having a theme “Newer concepts and Strategies for Disease Diagnostics and Immunoprophylactics for Enhancing Livestock Health & Production”.

  1. Establishment of Biosafety laboratories at different locations of the country at regional level for emergency preparedness to fight against uncommon pathogens like Avian Influenza etc. (Action: ICAR, State Governments, Ministry of Agriculture, GoI)
  2. Focus on research activities on the microbes which are beneficial to human and livestock, low cost antigen delivery system for farm animals and on mycoplasmas of zoonotic importance. (Action: IVRI, ICMR, NICD, ICAR)
  3. Bio-surveillance of zoonotic diseases needs to be strengthened specially on Rabies, Salmonellosis, Tuberculosis and Brucellosis through the close association of work among Veterinarians, Medical professionals and Social workers. (Action: ICAR, IVRI, ICMR, Vety. & Medical Colleges)
  4. Research on Nanotechnology should be taken on priority and possibilities of creation of a Nanotechnology Centre be explored at IVRI, Izatnagar for speeding up of work in this frontier area. (Action: ICAR, IVRI)
  5. National Control programme on Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) and Haemorrhagic Septicaemia (HS) needs to be initiated by the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries (DAHDF),   Ministry of Agriculture, GOI, New Delhi as we are fully equipped in respect of availability of potent vaccines, diagnostic kits, trained manpower and infrastructure required for control and eradication of these diseases. Along with these, the control programmes against “Goat pox” and Sheep pox” also need to be initiated as very potent vaccines are available against these diseases. (Action: Deptt. of A.H. & Dairying, Ministry of Agriculture, GoI, State Veterinary and Animal Husbandry)
